General Manager (Acting): Resource Management

Magan Govender

Magan has been appointed as General Manager, Resource Management effective May 2024. He joined Transnet as an Apprentice in 1991 and qualified as an Artisan in 1994. He moved up various ranks at TFR ranging from Electrical Fitter, Engineering Technician and Technical Advisor. He then joined TE in 2003 as National Marketing Manager for RSE, RM and Wheels, and was later appointed as Senior Manager: Rotating Machines and also Centre Manager: Langlaagte. He then moved to Executive Manager: Maintenance & Remanufacturing, Executive Manager: Rotating Machines, and then became the General Manager: Locomotives.

In November 2017 he was appointed Acting Divisional Manager: Manufacturing. In January 2021 he was appointed as General Manager Manufacturing within TE. In June 2024 Magan was appointed General Manager Resource Management, TFR.

With over 28 years of extensive experience in manufacturing and maintenance in railways, Magan has demonstrated his leadership skills in successful execution of mega manufacturing projects including Paperless Plant, 1064, reducing costs and on time delivery. Academically he holds Artisan: Electrical Fitter from Transnet, National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Durban Technical College, Advanced Business Programme from Durban Institute of Technology, B. Tech degree from Durban Institute of Technology, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of South Africa.
